About the role

As Senior Policy and Legal Officer – Boards and Committees, you will provide high-level policy advice and recommendations and legal support for matters relating to the governance of statutory boards and committees administered by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania.

  • Undertake legal and policy research and provide specialist advice related to the administration of enabling legislation, appointments, and the roles and functions of boards, committees and statutory bodies.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including board secretariats, the Executive, Department Leadership Group and other government entities to support consistent and compliant administration of board and committee appointments.

This is a fixed term position.

Our ideal candidate

  • Has strong experience in policy, governance or legal analysis, ideally within the public sector.
  • Can communicate with clarity and precision, especially when translating technical legal concepts for non-specialist audiences.
  • Possesses a deep understanding of public sector board operations, including appointment processes and statutory obligations.
  • Has strong leadership skills, with experience supervising staff and managing complex programs or activities.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, detail-focused environment with competing priorities.
