Senior Systems Engineer - RHEL / VMware / Python

Sydney | Hybrid | 6-12 Month Contract

We're partnering with a well-known Sydney enterprise that's kicking off a major infrastructure migration and modernisation program. They're after a Senior Systems Engineer who can take ownership of the low-level technical design and delivery - someone who thrives on solving problems, automating workflows and making complex systems run smoothly.

This role will suit an engineer who's comfortable getting deep into the details of RHEL and VMware environments, while also leading by example on automation and best practice.

The opportunity

Design and implement the compute and storage foundations to support upcoming migrations

Build, harden and operate RHEL servers across hybrid environments

Develop automation tooling using Python and Bash to standardise deployment processes

Create staging and rollback environments to support safe, repeatable releases

Oversee credential management, certificate rotation and secure access controls

Integrate monitoring, logging and SIEM feeds to provide clear operational visibility

Contribute technical leadership throughout design, implementation and post-migration support

What you'll bring

Deep hands-on experience with RHEL administration and automation

Strong VMware vSphere skills, including scripting and provisioning

Practical experience automating system builds and deployments with Python or Bash

A background in low-level infrastructure design and migration projects

Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with other engineers and stakeholders

Nice to have:

Familiarity with Cisco UCS hardware

Exposure to automation or orchestration tools such as Ansible, Terraform or Jenkins
