About the Opportunity
Western’s School of Social Sciences is seeking a Indigenous Student Success Officer to join the team at our Goulburn campus, working in close partnership with the NSW Police Academy.
This full-time, ongoing role offers an exciting opportunity in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families. The Indigenous Student Success Officer plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn. Embedded within the School of Social Sciences, this position is responsible for delivering high-quality student services, mentoring, and pastoral care. Working in close collaboration with student support centres such as Badanami, academic units, and Schools, the role focuses on enhancing the student experience and improving retention and graduation outcomes. The Officer will manage student enquiries across multiple channels including face-to-face, email, phone, and web chat and provide guidance on University and Academy systems. As a key liaison for complex student matters related to the Associate Degree in Applied Policing, the Officer will contribute to consistent service delivery and the continuous improvement of student support processes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering accurate, detailed and timely advice and support to students and staff across multiple service channels.
- Responding to program-specific enquiries and supporting students in navigating academic systems and procedures.
- Liaising with internal stakeholders and the NSW Police Force on complex matters relating to admissions, academic progress, and student support.
- Supporting key student lifecycle events such as graduations and orientation activities.
- Referring students to appropriate University services (e.g. mentoring, careers, counselling) where required.
- Contributing to process reviews, service improvement initiatives and technology enhancements.
- Promoting a culture of professionalism, inclusiveness, and service excellence within the team.

Location
This position is based at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn, however travel to other campuses of Western Sydney University may be required.

- A relevant qualification or equivalent professional experience in providing high-quality customer or student services within a complex environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally and sensitively across a diverse student cohort.
- Proficiency with computerised information systems and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities independently and as part of a team.
- A demonstrated understanding of the needs of students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and a passion for enhancing the student experience.
Pre-Employment Requirements
The successful applicant will be required to:
- Complete and obtain approval via the NSW Police Force Professional Suitability Application Form, and
- Obtain and maintain a Baseline National Security Clearance, as required by the NSW Police Academy.
These are mandatory conditions to be considered for this role, as required by the NSW Police Force.
Working with Children Check:
It is a mandatory requirement for any incumbent of this position to have a current NSW Employee Working with Children Clearance in accordance with the NSW Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
