About the team
The areas of law handled within the Prosecutions and other Advocacy Team include:
Mental Health Law (80% of the workload)
Proceedings under the Mental Health Act 2016 including appearing in proceedings in the Mental Health Court and Mental Health Review Tribunal;
Written advocacy & general advices (20% of the workload)
Providing general advice on:
- Procedural matters relating to advocacy matters conducted by the team;
- Regulatory investigations and law enforcement; and
- General statutory interpretation.
Your Key Responsibilities:
As required:
- achievement of CPD points
- participation in feedback processes such as 360◦.
- the client service charter
- the requirement to meet set targets for billable hours
- quality and timeliness measures
- quality assurance framework.
- provide specialist advice and guidance on questions of law and practice to more junior officers within Crown Law
- promote Crown Law services to clients
- provide legal training to clients and Crown Law staff
- negotiate skilfully in tough situations, winning concessions without damaging relationships
- write and communicate clearly and succinctly in a variety of settings to convey messages that will achieve a desired effect.
- liaise with officers of government departments, corporations and instrumentalities.

- Conduct a professional legal practice as a specialist practitioner and undertake a range of advocacy and legal work conducted by the Prosecutions and other Advocacy Team. Including;
- appearing on behalf of the Attorney-General in proceedings in the Mental Health Review Tribunal (MHRT)
- preparing advice regarding the outcome of MHRT hearings and possible grounds appeal
- preparing specialist advice regarding procedural and evidentiary matter related to prosecution and regulatory proceedings
