About the team

The Natural Areas Conservation (NAC) business unit is responsible for the day-to-day management and presentation of a 14,000-hectare estate rich in biodiversity. Our dedicated team protects, enhances, and promotes the City’s conservation reserves that stretch from the McPherson Range to Southern Moreton Bay.

About the role

The Senior Conservation Ranger is responsible for coordinating audits, service delivery, and continuous improvement across the City’s Natural Areas. The role involves overseeing contractors, mentoring Rangers, and providing technical expertise to resolve operational and environmental challenges.

With a focus on vegetation management, fire trails, recreational assets, and park boundary security, the position ensures assets are maintained to a high standard.

The role also manages budgets, supports Councillor and customer enquiries, promotes a strong safety culture, and uses GIS and data systems to guide conservation outcomes.

Key duties

Coordinate annual audits and maintenance processes for managing the City’s Natural Areas, including Interface Management Zones, the fire trail network, recreational assets, and other park boundary and security infrastructure.

Oversee vegetation management, track and trail maintenance, fencing, mowing, and landscaping service providers to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Mentor Conservation Rangers in program delivery and emergency response tasks.

Provide technical advice and support to resolve complex issues such as encroachments, flying-fox management, asset damage, and safety concerns.

Manage and monitor both capital and operational budgets.

Prepare advice and provide timely correspondence to Councillors and customers.

Champion and strengthen NAC’s safety culture, ensuring staff and contractors operate safely in remote and high-risk areas
