About the Role

Far North Day Hospital is seeking a motivated and experienced Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) to lead our Day Surgery Unit.

This is a full-time leadership position ideal for a nurse with a strong perioperative background and a passion for clinical excellence and team development. As NUM, you will oversee all operational, clinical, and staffing functions within the unit to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-focused care.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, and allied health professionals, you’ll play a key role in delivering outstanding surgical outcomes in a supportive, modern facility.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the day-to-day operations of the Day Surgery Unit

Provide clinical oversight across the perioperative journey (pre-op, intra-op, post-op)

Manage rosters, staffing levels, and workflow coordination

Foster a high-performing team culture focused on safety, empathy, and collaboration

Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and clinical governance policies

Drive continuous quality improvement and service excellence

Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure streamlined care delivery

Support professional development and performance management for nursing staff

Qualifications & Requirements

✅ Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent
✅ Current AHPRA Nursing Registration
✅ Minimum 3 years’ experience in perioperative or day surgery nursing
✅ Prior experience in a leadership or management role highly regarded
✅ Excellent clinical decision-making and leadership capabilities
✅ Proven organisational and communication skills
✅ Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and best practice care
✅ Current Working With Children Check and National Police Check
