The Waterloo South Renewal Project is one of the largest social housing renewal projects in Australia’s history. This renewal project is vital for Sydney – for the generations of people who have called Waterloo home over past decades, for those who live there now, and for those who will go on to call it home in the future.
Estimated to be delivered over 10 to 15 years, the development will provide a sustainable mixed-tenure community, including 50% social and affordable housing, and new facilities including retail precincts and public open spaces.
About the Role
Full Time (35 Hours/Week)

Offices based in Waterloo & Chatswood
The objective of the role of Specialist Support Officer is to drive whole of service system approach to deliver person centred outcomes. The role will use a case management framework to coordinate and facilitate support to residents in Waterloo South impacted through the development in an ethical, compassionate, and professional manner. This role reports to the Services Engagement Manager and has no direct reports however coaching and mentoring within the organisation is required.
Key areas of responsibility include:
Meeting with residents to complete a psychosocial assessment of their needs and identifying any barriers
Identifying and assessing suitability of external services for referral
Working with residents to develop positive links with support providers to achieve solutions specific to the impacts of Waterloo redevelopment
Ensuring that tailored case plans include SMART goals/ targets for the residents and household members to achieve over the agreed period of the plan
Evaluating the success of the case plan and support service linkages to ensure they are effective and contribute to overall success of the resident’s wellbeing
Who we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will have:
Tertiary qualification in social sciences (Degree or Diploma) or equivalent working experience (essential)
Experience in human services/community services (essential)
Social Housing qualifications or equivalent working experience in the social and community housing sector (desirable)
Experience in the development and implementation of case plans and working with highly vulnerable people with complex needs and challenging circumstances
Experience working with people with disabilities, culturally diverse, Aboriginal people, and diverse communities
You will also have:
Strong listening, communication, interpersonal and interviewing skills
Demonstrated capacity to work both as an effective team member, to take initiative and work autonomously when required
Demonstrated ability to maintain cultural competence in delivering services
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with a wide range of human service groups and organisations
You will also need:
Willingness to comply with vaccination requirements imposed by Link Wentworth, including COVID-19 and other vaccinations, as determined by the organisation in accordance with current Government health advice, mandates, or directions
A valid National Police Check (less than six (6) months old) to the satisfaction of Link Wentworth, to be renewed every five (5) years or more frequently as reasonably required by Link Wentworth
Willingness to be office-based five (5) days per week
A current driver’s licence valid in the state of NSW
