About The Role!

The Policy Advisor works within the Policy & Regulations team in the areas of pharmacy regulation and medicines regulation. This role is a full-time, ongoing opportunity and is based at the Guild’s National Secretariat in Canberra.

About You!

You are someone who wants to make a difference with their work. Someone who loves being organised and gets excited about contributing to policy development! You will bring your experience from a similar role to add value to policy and research activities occurring across the Guild. Even better if you have had experience in the health sector, although not essential.

Your communication skills shine through in your ability to contribute to technical writing pieces including policies, reports and submissions for a variety of audiences. You are an analytical and critical thinker.

You will be excited to gain exposure to areas that make a real difference to the health outcomes of Australians. Your ability to engage with stakeholders and nurture excellent relationships through collaboration and consultation will be highly valued.

Formal quals in a related field aren’t essential but appreciated. We are more interested in your working experience and your ability to give us an idea on how you would add value to us through this role.

The role responsibilities of the Communications Officer include:

Develop responses to regulatory matters concerning therapeutic goods, drugs, medicines and poisons schedules that impact on community pharmacies within Australia

Provide input into the pharmacy practice and pharmacy regulation matters that are consistent with the Guild’s Strategic Plan

Undertake research and develop Guild submissions, reports, briefing papers, policies and position statements on a range of issues relevant to the area of responsibility (medicine scheduling, regulatory affairs and pharmacy practice)

Oversee handling of medicine alerts and recalls of therapeutic goods of relevance to community pharmacy

Represent the Guild on external working parties, committees, forums, meetings and conferences relevant to areas of responsibility

Liaise, negotiate and develop relationships with a range of stakeholders including government departments, consumer groups and medicine industry and health organisations to achieve the best outcomes with regards to areas of responsibility

Monitor national and international trends in community pharmacy practice and contribute to the development of policies and resources

Provide advice to members as required with regards to areas of responsibility

Contribute to Guild publications relating to clinical and professional community pharmacy practice and work with various teams to develop resources for members via website listing or other preferred means for relevant matters

Assist with activities of other Guild teams especially re media inquiries, member communication and consumer materials, response to various queries / correspondence

The following work experience and knowledge is required:

Experience in a similar role within a regulatory setting

Pharmacy practice and medicines regulatory framework in Australia

Health system, policy and regulation

Research and policy development

The Australian health system, health promotion and public health

Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, as in practice in each State and Territory

Well-developed research, analytical and critical thinking skills

High level written and oral communication skills for varied audiences from a technical and/or policy perspective

Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills including the ability to liaise, negotiate and work cooperatively with other Guild teams, Guild Branches and stakeholders

Demonstrated ability to perform under limited direction to meet agreed performance expectations

Strong organisational, administrative and planning skills.
