About the Business Unit:
Victims Services, Support and Reform is part of the Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination group within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). VSSR is responsible for the delivery and reform of services to victims of crime, placing victims at the centre of our justice system, as well as direct service provision through a range of programs including the Victims of Crime Helpline, Victims Register and the Victims Assistance Program.
The Strategy and Policy Unit in VSSR leads the development and implementation of victims policy within DJCS and across government, including supporting implementation of major system reforms, such designing and establishing new services to support victims of youth offending and supporting the new Victims of Crime Financial Assistance Scheme and the Victims Legal Service.
About the Role:
The Senior Legal Policy Officer will suit an experienced policy and creative policy thinker with the ability to work to with a range of operational stakeholders.
Some of your duties will include:
- Providing expert legal policy advice to support the implementation and operation of VSSR's victim services, including advising on required regulations to support delivery, and operational issues such as privacy and information sharing requirements
- Contributing to complex projects that implement Government reforms designed to support victims of crime
- Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships across VSSR to identify legal issues and provide practical, implementable establishment and improvement solutions.

About You:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Demonstrated high quality analytical and policy skills, including using data to inform policy development
- The ability to work with practice teams to identify needs and design solutions
- Demonstrated experience in developing or implementing legislation, subordinate legislation, regulations or Guidelines.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution is highly desirable.
