About the role
The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is undertaking a significant Business Transformation Program aimed at reshaping our organisation’s processes, technology, and ways of working. As a Commercial Officer, you will play a vital role in administering and developing contracts for low to medium-value procurement activities, supporting the efficient delivery of services through modern, collaborative approaches. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers, ensuring contracts comply with agency policies and contribute to the overall objectives of the transformation program.
In this role, you will manage procurement planning, contract administration, risk management, and supplier relationship activities. Your responsibilities will include preparing procurement documentation, monitoring contract compliance, maintaining risk registers, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. You will also assist in identifying procurement efficiencies, supporting data integrity, and leveraging digital tools to streamline commercial processes, helping the PTA deliver value for money and improved service outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of government procurement policies, contract development or administration experience, and a keen awareness of risk management principles. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for consulting and negotiating with a variety of stakeholders. You should be organised, able to manage competing priorities, and demonstrate sound analytical and problem-solving abilities. About You!
To excel in this role, you should possess:
Knowledge of the application of government procurement policies and procedures.
Experience in contract development and/or administration.
Understanding of risk management principles.
Sound verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to consult, negotiate, and manage relationships with a range of stakeholders.
Sound written communication skills, with the ability to prepare procurement and contract documentation.

There is currently one fixed term (part time 3 days per week) opportunity available to 30 June 2027 with the possibility of renewal and/or permanency. Applicants assessed as suitable through this process may be used to fill similar vacancies on a fixed term or permanent basis that may arise within the next 12 months
To be eligible to work at the PTA you must be either an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident or hold a valid work visa until 30/06/27.
