About the opportunity:
The Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) is seeking an experienced geoscience professional to lead South Australia's Energy Geoscience Information team as the Principal Geologist - Team Lead, Energy Geoscience Information.
This is a senior leadership role that provides strategic direction, expert advice, and authoritative oversight in the management of energy geoscience data submitted by industry under Energy Resource legislation.
You will be the State Government's discipline expert for energy resource data governance --ensuring that data is efficiently managed, systems are maintained and enhanced, and South Australia continues to be recognised nationally and internationally for high-quality energy geoscience information delivery.
You will lead a high-performing team of data and compliance professionals and work closely with senior geoscientists, engineers, IT, regulators, and industry stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and support investment attraction in the State's energy resources.

Has extensive experience and national recognition in energy resource data management.
Understands the legislative framework governing geoscience data in South Australia.
Demonstrates strategic and innovative thinking in project and team leadership.
Excels at stakeholder engagement and has a proven record of delivering complex, high-impact projects.
Possesses strong communication and negotiation skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Key Selection Criteria:

Proven high level project management expertise in successfully planning and delivering complex major projects, including skills in leading high quality project monitoring, budgeting, reporting and analysis.
Extensive demonstrated experience and recognised as an expert in both the business and science of energy resource data management.
Deep understanding of regulating industry under the Energy Resource legislation to achieve DEM outcomes for geological data management.
Significant analytical, business and management expertise, including demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining high performing teams with a positive and supportive culture.
Qualifications:
Essential: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or Geophysics or other relevant degree qualification.
Remuneration:
PO4 salary range $110,696 - $120,470 per annum + superannuation
Full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week
Special Conditions:
Domestic and international travel may be required as part of this role.
