Salary - VPS 5.1: $113,022 to $124,884 + 12% superannuation

About the role:
The Laboratory Manager Lead role based at our Macelod facility, will oversee and enable a fit for purpose test and calibration operational facility in the Science Division, including guiding and upskilling laboratory users on lab safety, quality and culture, providing day to day management of monitoring operations, development and implementation of a laboratory management system that includes oversight of quality control and assurance processes.
In this role you will:
- Undertake and oversee management of laboratory operations, compliance, audit, and safety programs, including purchasing, resource allocation, sample management, waste management, and licensing.
- Implement and manage programs to ensure compliance with laboratory standards, operating models, accreditations and regulatory requirements in a government environment. Undertake compliance checks, inspections and reporting for OHS and WHS legislation, regulations and policies.
- Working with individual lab users to foster and build a laboratory culture across the division and broader EPA that supports the operations of a scientific based regulator.
- Develop and implement overarching policies and procedures for the operation of the laboratories at EPA. Including maintaining training records of staff in the use of labs, lab equipment and procedures, including scheduling and budgeting of training needs and requirements for staff.
- Oversee an overarching quality management system and conduct routine inspections, tests and audits documenting findings, recommendations and support in the implementation of corrective actions.
- Provide insights into new developments in the field of laboratory science and incorporate them into the lab's operations.
Skills and experience:
- A relevant tertiary degree or qualifications in Laboratory Techniques or a related discipline is desirable.
- Experience in operating a facility to laboratory safety regulations and quality standards.
- Experience using Quality Management Systems.
- Experience in lab controls and standards (e.g. ISO/IEC 17025, NATA accreditation process) daily laboratory operations.
- Proven knowledge and experience with OHS and WHS legislation, regulations and policies Asset, procurement and financial management for lab budget, equipment, consumables and contracts.
- Advanced knowledge of ISO IEC 17025, ISO 9001, ISO4001 standards, principles and practices.
- High level communications and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise across multiple competing demands.
