The Township:
The Town of Walkerville is a small, dynamic and innovative Council, which serves a community of more than 8,000 residents in the eastern metropolitan region. The residents of the Town of Walkerville are represented by a Mayor and eight Councillors.
The Position:
This crucial role within our Community Safety team combines essential administrative support with direct community engagement. You'll play a key part in:
Administrative Functions: Issuing and processing expiation notices, managing dog and cat registrations, and preparing official correspondence.
Customer Service: Delivering high-quality service in response to community requests.
Community Engagement & Education: Raising awareness about vehicle and parking safety, animal management, local nuisances, abandoned vehicles, and council by-laws. You'll educate the community and undertake enforcement when necessary, always maintaining fairness and consistency.
Regulatory Services: Providing a range of quality animal-related regulatory services in line with legislation and Council's Animal Management Plan.
Team Collaboration: Working effectively as part of the Community Safety Team, assisting with various record-related tasks and project.
Confidentiality: Upholding the highest level of confidentiality in all duties.
Key Responsibilities
As a Community Safety Officer, you will:
Implement and enforce the Town of Walkerville's Animal Management Plan and related legislation, including dog and cat registration, wandering animals, attacks, and nuisance complaints.
Conduct regular patrols for parking enforcement, focusing on school zones, and address footpath obstructions. This includes issuing warnings and expiations, and maintaining detailed patrol logs.
Manage abandoned vehicles by following up, issuing notices, arranging impoundment, and assisting with disposal.
Respond to general regulatory matters, such as flammable undergrowth, encroachments, illegal signs, rubbish dumping, and by-law enforcement.
Investigate community complaints on various issues, including European wasps, building site "drag out," and hoarding.
Provide essential administrative support, including records management and maintaining confidentiality for all actions and correspondence.
Contribute to organisational strategic targets by supporting permit areas, conducting parking signage audits, and proactively monitoring traffic safety.
Assist with achieving departmental goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as directed.
Experience/Qualifications (Essential):
Police Clearance or willingness to obtain.
Work with Children Clearance (WWCC) or willingness to obtain.
Driver's licence.
Knowledge of Local Government and functions.
