About the role:
The position of Indigenous Trainee General Hand will work on a fixed term full-time basis in our bush maintenance area and perform a diverse range of tasks associated with the development and maintenance of Council’s natural environmental area, whilst providing safe and efficient gardening, pruning and land conservation services within the City.
The position is for a 12-month fixed term contract period to support the learning required to complete a Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management or Certificate II in Horticulture and most of the time will be spent gaining on the job experience. There is a requirement of attending TAFE as part of gaining the qualification. There may be further opportunities within the City of Swan once the traineeship has been completed.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Carry out a variety of tasks as set by the Supervisor, associated with the maintenance and construction of Parks operations
- Operate and maintain all associated plant in accordance with Safe Working Practices, Council Policy and procedures
- Comply with relevant Occupational Safety and Health legislation and complete all work in a safe and efficient manner, having regarding to own safety, the public and that of other workers
- Follow standard operating procedures and guidelines to everyday routine task as directed by supervisor
- Completion of regular occurring task, adhering to procedures
- Ensure that developed procedures and guidelines are followed
- Provide regular feedback in toolbox to correct quality deviations and/or faults

The successful candidate will have the following:
- An interest and willingness to gain knowledge and experience in Parks, Gardens, Environmental Rehabilitation, maintenance and/or construction, including relevant plant operation
- Pursuant to Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, Aboriginality is a genuine occupational requirement for this position.
- Willingness to commit to completing the required qualification – Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management or Certificate II in Horticulture
- Basic written and oral literacy and numeracy skills
- Willingness to work and collaborate within a team
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate
- C Class Drivers Licence
- Safety Awareness Training Certificate (White Card)

The salary for this position will be from $71,763.15 - $72,717.31 (includes loading) per annum, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
