The Opportunity

Here at The Kids our vision is simple; Happy, Healthy Kids! We want kids to be able to live their lives to the healthiest and happiest, right here in our community - and around the world.

The Kids have an overarching commitment to address the inequity of the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and families.

Our Healthy Skin team play an important role in achieving this vision with a wide range of projects that discover, treat and prevent infectious diseases, with a focus on the health of kids and families in Aboriginal communities.

The Healthy Skin Team are looking to recruit an Aboriginal project coordinator to ensure Aboriginal people and communities are appropriately represented and the research is conducted in a culturally safe manner. We now have an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Trial Coordinator to support culturally safe implementation of the ISAAC (Invasive Streptococcus A: Antibiotic prophylaxis for Contact management) Trial—a national, long-term study investigating how best to prevent invasive Group A Strep (iGAS) among people living with someone diagnosed with iGAS.

This role is central to ensuring Aboriginal leadership and governance throughout the ISAAC Trial. Responsibilities include providing cultural guidance to study coordinators nationally, overseeing Aboriginal-specific ethics and engagement, co-designing culturally appropriate materials, building strong community relationships, and developing educational resources on iGAS and skin health.

You will be supported by an experienced project team and have the opportunity to contribute to the following activities:

Establish and lead the ISAAC Trial Aboriginal Community Advisory Committee to guide culturally safe research practices and support the implementation of agreed actions.

Provide leadership and oversight of the Aboriginal components of the ISAAC Trial.

Contribute to the development and delivery of workshops and training opportunities with local and national Aboriginal health services engaged in the ISAAC Trial.

Offer cultural guidance and support to research and clinical staff involved in participant recruitment and engagement.

Provide input into design and implementation of knowledge translation activities, ensuring content is accessible for Aboriginal communities and that content is effectively communicated and understood.

Involvement in support for Aboriginal participants during recruitment as needed.

You will have an opportunity to work with influential researchers and health organisations in WA and around Australia, ensure research activities align with Aboriginal cultural values, protocols, and practices, and advise on culturally appropriate data collection methods.

Conveniently located within the Perth Children’s Hospital, this full-time opportunity will be offered on an ongoing basis. We are open to discussing the possibility of part-time hours and/or flexible start and finish times, dependent on the successful candidates.

About You

If you are passionate about working in Aboriginal and Child Health Research and excited to connect with different families, communities and services to support better health outcomes for our kids, then we want to hear from you!

The key to your success will be your demonstrated experience in the following:

Significant experience with responsible roles in planning, conduct, management or coordination of clinical research in Aboriginal communities and settings.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to support group interaction, including effective communication with a broad range of stakeholders.
