As we continue to scale and enhance our product offering, we are seeking a highly skilled database specialist.

About the role

We’re looking for a technically proficient, detail-oriented Database Administrator who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact startup environment. This role will focus on obtaining, using and analyzing our data. The main goal in the data structure team is to ensure that the databases are always up-to-date, clean, and in good condition. To achieve this, clear communication, quick response to reports, and timely error correction are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Extraction & Analysis: Extract, clean and format the data to turn into usable data.
• SQL Expertise: Write and optimize advanced SQL queries for reporting, monitoring, and application support.
• Understand current SQL practices and optimise access speed etc
• Data Validation & QA: Ensure data accuracy and reliability through rigorous validation processes.
• Error and Anomaly Correction: Quickly and efficiently address error or anomaly reports detected by the data analyst, ensuring the integrity and quality of the corrected data.
• Historical Data Update: Ensure the constant updating and integrity of historical databases to keep them current, guaranteeing traceability and consistency over time.
• Change Documentation: Record and communicate any modifications or updates to databases to keep the team aligned and facilitate subsequent data validation and analysis.
• Clear Communication: Maintain constant and clear communication with the data team, especially to inform about the status of corrections, data updates, or any technical difficulties that may exist within the databases.
• Proactive Collaboration: Provide feedback on the clarity or efficiency of the reports and information delivered by the data team. If necessary, suggest improvements in the data validation and correction processes.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Level of experience using Python, some experience using Matlab would be ideal. ● Experience in utilising existing or creating new web scraping tools to collect and format data in a reliable fashion.
• Degree or previous experience in Software Engineering, programming or relevant quantitative field.
• Passion for diving into large and complex datasets and extracting actionable insights.
• Appreciation for the value of accuracy and completeness of data.
• Strong understanding of relational database design, integrity constraints, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing requirements, and work autonomously.
• Clear, concise communication skills and the ability to take direction and deliver high-quality outputs.

Additional Assets:

• Experience in the sports betting or racing industries.
• Familiarity with racing form data, odds fluctuations, or tipping trends.
