About the Organisation:
A respected provider of residential alcohol and other drug (AOD) rehabilitation services is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join a dynamic team in Bairnsdale. Working within a therapeutic community model, this role supports individuals on their journey to recovery through holistic, evidence-based healthcare in a residential setting.

About the Role:
The AOD Residential Nurse will provide clinical nursing care, withdrawal management, and health education for residents undergoing treatment for problematic substance use. Working alongside clinicians, medical professionals, and support staff, you will ensure clients are cared for in a safe, respectful, and recovery-focused environment.

This role combines hands-on healthcare with leadership, supervision of Enrolled Nurses, and active involvement in group work and therapeutic programs. You'll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that values inclusion, cultural safety, and person-centred care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage AOD withdrawal symptoms and related care plans
  • Administer medication and liaise with pharmacists and GPs
  • Conduct AOD and health assessments, referrals, and education
  • Support Opioid Assisted Therapy (OAT) stabilisation and harm minimisation
  • Supervise and mentor Enrolled Nurses within their scope of practice
  • Provide psychoeducation and evidence-based interventions (e.g. CBT, MI)
  • Contribute to care planning, discharge planning, and clinical documentation
  • Facilitate health-related group sessions and promote wellbeing
  • Maintain clinical safety, infection control, stock levels, and medical records
  • Participate in quality improvement, audits, and clinical supervision
  • Liaise with external services and support court advocacy when required

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Strong clinical skills in AOD, mental health, and medical care
  • Experience in residential or withdrawal settings preferred
  • Understanding of therapeutic community models and trauma-informed care
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and documentation skills
  • Experience supervising Enrolled Nurses or students (desirable)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage complex client needs

Additional Requirements:

  • Current Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence
  • Willingness to complete AOD competencies within 12 months if not already held
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including on-call roster participation
  • Preparedness to travel locally as required

Benefits:

  • Contribute to meaningful recovery outcomes in a residential setting
  • Be part of a supportive and inclusive multidisciplinary team
  • Opportunities for training, development, and supervision
  • Clinical leadership and community advocacy involvement
  • Work in a values-driven, client-focused organisation
