Foster and Kinship Carers Association NT (FKCANT) is the peak body representing all foster and kinship carers across the Northern Territory. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, we empower carers through knowledge, support and advocacy.
We provide advice, training, advocacy and case management support to carers navigating the often complex challenges of the care environment.
FKCANT has recently been given an exciting opportunity by the Department of Children and Families to expand our carer recruitment and assessment services. We’re now looking for a skilled and compassionate professional to join our team.
About the Role
As a Foster and Kinship Carer Assessor, you’ll be responsible for assessing the suitability of new and existing carers across the Northern Territory. Your work will ensure safe, high-quality placements for children and young people in out-of-home care.
Key responsibilities include:
· Conducting foster and kinship carer assessments and reviews in line with departmental guidelines
· Interviewing potential carers and gathering references
· Producing thorough, strengths-based assessment reports
· Working closely with the Department of Children and Families
· Supporting carer registration in line with legislation and policy
· Representing FKCANT professionally across the sector
About You
Essential:
· Degree in Social Work, Psychology or equivalent, with eligibility for relevant professional association membership (AASW, APS)
· Strong interpersonal, organisational and conflict management skills
· Experience conducting complex assessments involving family and community dynamics
· Excellent communication and report writing skills
· Ability to work independently and manage a high workload
· Experience applying child protection legislation
· Knowledge and respect for Aboriginal culture and the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle
Desirable:
· Experience in child protection or out-of-home care
· Willingness to travel throughout the NT, including overnight trips

· SCHADS Level 4–6 salary ($84,006 – $109,629) + 12% super + leave loading
· Generous salary packaging (up to $15,900 tax-free + $2,650 for meals/entertainment)
