We are a key driver of economic development, dealing with over 3000 development applications annually ranging from coastal to primary production, residential infill and greenfield, industrial, commercial, retail and mixed-use applications.

About the position

The Development Officer (Planning) is responsible for the assessment of development applications against the Planning & Design Code, and the provision of professional town planning advice to the Council Assessment Panel and customers relating to the planning, development assessment and compliance responsibilities of council.

The position requires strong working relationships with the Development Services team as well as various internal and external consultants and stakeholders.

About you

Working as part of a collaborative Planning team in a fast-paced, results driven and fun environment – your energy, positivity and passion for planning assessment will enable you to undertake the timely assessment of development applications. You will have experience in planning assessment using the Planning & Design Code. Degree qualified in Planning or a similar discipline, you’ll be no stranger to multi-tasking in an operational planning assessment position. You will possess highly developed interpersonal and written skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated planning assessment experience with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
  2. Proven experience using the PlanSA portal and interpreting the Planning and Design Code and associated legislation.
  3. Flexible approach to problem solving, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  4. Passion and value for outstanding customer service.
  5. This position would be the perfect opportunity for an experienced planner to apply their existing skillset and broaden their experience assessing a diverse range of development applications.
