An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate Senior Policy and Data Analyst to join the department and improve the health, safety and wellbeing of our principals, school and department employees.

About the Department

The Department of Education (DE) leads the delivery of education and development services to children, young people and adults both directly through government schools and indirectly through the regulation and funding of early childhood services, non-government schools and training programs.

Employee Safety, Wellbeing and Inclusion Division

The Employee Safety, Wellbeing and Inclusion Division (ESWI Division) is committed to the Department's vision to create safe, healthy, respectful and inclusive working environments for Department employees to thrive and succeed.

The ESWI Division performs its functions through five branches that span from prevention with a focus on employee mental health, through to response and recovery, along with strategy, advice and support, and diversity and inclusion. These teams adopt a holistic approach for supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce across schools, central and regional offices. This includes Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Workers' Compensation policy advice and support, for both physical and mental health and wellbeing, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

The objectives of the ESWI Division are to:

  • promote respectful and inclusive workplaces that upholds equal opportunity and prevents discrimination, bullying, harassment and sexual harassment
  • promote human rights and workforce diversity and inclusion.
  • promote positive wellbeing in working environments, including by proactively supporting and protecting employee mental health
  • prevent against known and expected risks to health, safety and wellbeing
  • respond swiftly and effectively to manage potential issues as they emerge and prevent injuries
  • support employees to recover from injury and illness, and return to work
About the Role

The role provides an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong data analysis, policy, presentation and stakeholder management skills.

The purpose of this Senior Policy and Data Analyst role is to undertake data analysis to support informed decision- making and strategic initiatives that help create safe, respectful and inclusive workplaces for school-based and corporate staff.

Previous experience in school operations, respectful workplaces, disability and inclusive education is desirable. As an integral part of a team working in a dynamic environment, the successful candidate will:

- translate and communicate complex quantitative results into compelling insights that inform policy development and business decisions

- liaise with key stakeholders across the department and schools

- produce high-quality written work, including presentations, reports and briefings

- contribute to the development and implementation of programs and resources

- prepare biannual reports and annual reporting for the branch

Current priorities (that may evolve over time) include reviewing work-related violence in schools' data to inform policy review and capability building. The successful candidate will also support the department's diversity and inclusion priorities through analysis of employee experience data, workforce data, and implementation data of targeted initiatives.

The role does not involve management of staff, but it does require leadership and strong collaboration within a high- performing branch that is supportive, friendly and passionate about supporting the workforce to create safe, respectful and inclusive places to work and learn across Victoria.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Desirable: Experience in data management and analysis
  • Desirable: Relevant tertiary qualification in education, project management, occupational health and safety
