We are a small specialist medical practice (General Surgery) seeking a casual staff member to cover for holiday leave and sick leave only. We currently require cover for annual leave for one week in August 2025. Following this, we hope to develop a relationship where we can call upon the candidate throughout the year as cover is needed. You will also need to be flexible to cover last minute sick leave on the very rare occasion that this may be required. This is a great opportunity for a candidate that would simply like to work a few hours here and there in a very pleasant and organised environment.

We are looking for a candidate with previous experience working for a medical specialist / surgeon or with previous experience as a specialist medical practice manager. Previous surgery booking and Genie or Gentu experience is a must plus a good sense of humour would be an absolute bonus!

You will be working independently with our very lovely General Surgeon maintaining the general upkeep of the practice , running patient clinics (approx. 1 day per week), making surgery bookings using Gentu, monitoring emails, telephone enquiries and appointment bookings using Gentu . As you will be the sole secretary, we require a candidate that is across all aspects of how a specialist medical practice is run.

The hours will depend on how many clinics are scheduled in the weeks that the usual secretary will be away. On non-clinic days you will be required for around 4 hours each day Monday - Friday (hours are reasonably flexible) to respond to telephone calls / messages and emails. On clinic days (usually half day clinics) you will be required to arrive half an hour before the start of the clinic and your finishing time will be half an hour after the clinic ends which usually equates to around 5-6 hours.
