About Aboriginal Hostels Limited
Aboriginal Hostels Limited’s (AHL) vision is to improve the quality of life and opportunities for First Nations people through their national network of hostels.
AHL hostels are like a home away from home for people needing to travel for access to services or for work and education opportunities. They provide comfortable, culturally safe and affordable accommodation, three meals a day and a welcoming environment for those who stay.
The Opportunity
Working closely with the local community, you will support people staying in hostels and ensure residents can connect with all services they require during their stay.
AHL is proud to be one of the largest employers of First Nations people in the Australian Public Service (APS) with First Nations employees making up approximately 50% of their workforce.
The Role
AHL Assistant Hostel Managers are responsible for the day to running of their hostel alongside Hostel Managers.
These are hands on roles and will see you working closely with the team to provide a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
Roles are offered either as permanent full-time or part-time. Current shift patterns may include some weekend work with penalties.
In addition to the immediate vacancies, suitable applicants will be put in a talent pool and contacted if future opportunities become available.
The Ideal Person
Great Assistant Hostel Mangers come from a wide range of backgrounds.
While experience in a similar industry is important, a really successful Assistant Hostel Manager must have empathy, resilience, a calm but firm demeanour and can work well leading a team.
People with a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and issues affecting First Nations peoples are well suited to these roles.
This is an Affirmative Measures – First Nations applicants only position. The filling of this vacancy is intended to constitute an Affirmative Measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975.
Please refer to the Vacancy Information for further information and eligibility requirements.
